Assessment and treatment of:

  • Urinary incontinence, faecal incontinence, obstructive defaecation, pelvic organ prolapse, birth related perineal trauma, pelvic and sexual pain
  • Maternity related musculoskeletal problems
  • Male urology, colorectal and pain dysfunctions

 

Auckland City Hospital (ACH) Inpatient Service

Assessment and treatment of:

  • antenatal and postnatal musculoskeletal and respiratory conditions
  • birth related perineal trauma
  • gynaecology inpatient services
Services provided Physiotherapy Physiotherapists diagnose and support people to regain mobility and reduce pain caused by an injury, disability or health condition such as arthritis. Female urinary incontinence Treatment is available for all types of urinary incontinence.

The initial appointment is an education session followed by individual follow up appointments.  This will involve assessment of the pelvic floor muscles, education, lifestyle advice and possibly the use of biofeedback tools. Prolapse Conservative management including exercise and lifestyle modification.  The initial appointment is an education session, and then individual follow-up appointments thereafter. Pelvic and sexual pain Treatment of pain disorders will include education, lifestyle modification advice, biofeedback and exercises. This is done initially in a class setting, and may be followed by individual treatments where required. Male urinary incontinence Treatment of incontinence including pre and post prostatectomy.

Treatment may consist of education, pelvic floor muscle training, lifestyle and exercise advice. Faecal incontinence Treatment is available for all types of faecal incontinence.

This will involve assessment of the pelvic floor muscles, education, advice and possibly the use of biofeedback tools. This is initally done in a education session, and may be followed by individual treatments where required. Obstructive defaecation Treatment may involve education and advice, exercises and lifestyle modification. This is initally done in a education session, and may be followed by individual treatments where required. Gynaecological surgery recovery After major gynaecological surgery physiotherapists will work with people towards optimal recovery.

Appointments are in the form of a group education session.

Treatment may consist of education, exercises, advice regarding daily activities and lifestyle modifications.  Please note that whilst we are able to advise women on appropriate pelvic joint and supports, belts and braces we are not able to provide these items.
